Around Here

aaaveges

It has been an eventful couple of weeks here in Snoskredland. So what is happening around here? I’m going to do a quick rundown of a few things we’ve been up to..

aaaveges1

Eating: Loads of vegies. The Other Half said to me that if I steamed Brussels Sprouts for him, along with some carrots and cauliflower, he would eat them. So we’ve been having a huge bowl of vegies alongside some of our meals these past two weeks. I’ve discovered that I love Brussels sprouts myself. We went through 1kg of them in the last two weeks. I also get to put in some of my faves, like broccoli and mushrooms which he will not eat..

Loving: Having our wall art back up again. It has been freaking me out a little, which is odd coming from someone who sits with a full size skeleton in her lounge room. But it has been so long since we’ve had these things on our walls that it is taking some getting used to. I’ll put some of our wall art pics through this post.

Hating: “It’s a Mitsi” – no, teevee ad people, saying one line over and over does not create a catch phrase. Plus, way to go on the research front. Apparently there were ecstasy tablets named Mitsi a few years ago.

Watching: The final season of Mad Men. Season 6 of The Good Wife. Veep – I LOVE Veep! The new season of Deadliest Catch. Australia’s Next Top Model – I am a huge fan of Brittany.

Preparing: 8kg of chicken, cut up, foodsaved, and frozen in the space of an hour on Monday afternoon. It was $5.99 a kg, which is over half the price we normally pay. I have 3 bags for chicken and bacon pasta, 8 bags of chicken pieces for stir fries or Honey and Mustard chicken, plus several bags of chicken steaks for pepper chicken or chicken and sweetcorn soup.

Snacking: on carrots, and many apples I have in the fridge. Dawn is right with what she said in this post – be preparedI find that if I have snacks and other items already prepped, I’m much less likely to eat things I shouldn’t.

art4

Planning: Menus on a fortnightly basis.

Mourning: the loss of photos and other data – A bad thing happened to our server box.. :( It is way too technical to explain how we have it set up but I will give you a quick and basic overview. The Other Half uses a RAID array which is essentially 5 hard drives set up to work together, storing all our movies, TV shows, and photos.

We do have a lot of DVDs and blu-rays, in particular a lot of tv shows. Rather than store them on the DVDs like many people do, we took to keeping them digitally because we have setups that allow us to watch them on our tv screens without having to handle the DVDs at all. Better for the DVDs, longterm, and better for us to binge watch.

It has been fantastic to have it as a virtual library where you can flick through and pick what you feel like at the time. The backup to the virtual library is, of course, the DVDs. Except the photos, which we usually back up to a DVD every so often.. and it had been a while. Since 2008. :(

So of course the universe would choose this moment to have not one, not two, but THREE of the hard drives fail. When they fail, they try to backup all the information to the other disks, and they managed to do that with the tv shows, the movies, but not the photos.

We’ve lost quite a lot of images, and The Other Half has been kicking himself for not having backups, etc. I don’t see the point in doing that – it is done, they are lost, we have to build a bridge and get over it. Most importantly, we need to make a new plan for storing photos going forward.

Controversy in the blogosphere = my wall art.

Today’s been one of those days where I kinda wish I’d stayed in bed. There’s controversy afoot in the blogosphere. First over at Blogrhet, where I’ve got involved in a discussion about race. Second over at Thailand Gal and The Ravin Picture Maven where two of my favourite people seem to have had a falling out. Third, at Big Fat Deal, where a link to an article in the Boston Globe – Do we really need a law to protect fat workers – was posted – an article which is inspiring me for next week’s Hump Day Hmmm, for which I’m currently considering the title Fat Is The New Black.

On top of all this, the people across the road are playing rugby in the street, shouting and screaming and making a lot of noise, the dog next door is endlessly barking, the builders across the road start work at 6:30am and finish at 6pm making a hell of a racket all day plus there’s a constant engine running drone coming from that direction, not one decent place to live in the peaceful place I want to move to has been listed in the last 2 weeks, in order to counteract the noise from outside I have music playing very loudly in here (currently coldplay), some f*cknut stole my blog content and refuses to remove it, (see Meg’s great post Copyright and Plagiarism on Blogs for info on what to do when this happens) I missed seeing the space shuttle launch this morning because I slept in and I have the theme song from Mad Max 3 Beyond the Thunderdome by Tina Turner (we don’t need another hero, we don’t need to know the way home, all we want is life beyond the thunderdome) as well as the Eagles Hotel California (And she said ’we are all just prisoners here, of our own device’) alternating in my skull at loud volumes which can only mean one thing. What does it mean, I hear you ask?

Snoskred is possessed by the Devil.

Well, the Eagles Hotel California means that, anyway. They told me so when I was on a Baptist church camp once – that song = Satan. You heard it here first. Unless you heard it on your own church camp.

It’s making me tired, all this not understanding where each other is coming from. I feel like taking a nap. Of course the rugby playing shouting screaming dog barking builder racket is not going to allow me to do that. So, I’ve decided to take a day out from it here on the blog and by popular request post photos of all my wall art. Yeah we’re used to long posts here by now right? Well this one will be long because it’ll have a lot of photos, many of them not as good quality as I would like. But here we go anyway. Apologies for the sometimes odd angles and not brilliant picture quality however it isn’t easy to take pics of this stuff inside on a very thunderstormy day. And one of them is crooked but I don’t have the energy to go back and take the photo again, so just deal with it, ok? ;)

Now let us stop talking, calm the mind and look at pretty pictures. Or alternatively, you do that while I attempt to think positive thoughts, long for some peace and quiet and look for earplugs.

There’s only one solution for this mood I’m in. I need to go sit in my recliner, and watch William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet at high volume on the surround sound and have a good bawl.. Catch you tomorrow. ;)

Quick Blog

templat

I don’t have much time for anything today, long day at work, then we went out to dinner with a really interesting guy from work. Then I get home to find about 500 emails. This picture you see here hangs on my bedroom wall. I really like it, but my other half says it is not possible for this picture to be real. If the sun was where it is shining on the moon, this would be full daylight. So they must have ‘shopped the moon into the picture. While that is kind of bad, I still really love this picture. I thought it was the moon over clouds for a while, but that’s back when I was not wearing my glasses so much. It’s actually breaking waves.

I am going to try and get some pictures like this from some of the local beaches here when the moon is rising, which are real and not shopped. I have to figure out when the moon is, first. ;)

Even when the lights are out, I can still make out the moon, and the blue “clouds” sea and it is a great image to go to sleep to. I am really looking forward to sleep today. What a contrast from yesterday which was a bit of a downer day, to today with a great dinner with family and with a bloke I found quite fascinating. I’m in a much happier frame of mind.
