Weekly Wrap Ups - On Holidays!

Weekly wrap ups have gone on holidays for the month of November. They are likely sunning themselves on a beach somewhere. Fear not, because I am still keeping links, and there will be a monthly wrap up instead this month.

But Why?

Well in case you didn’t notice November is a busy month, and I haven’t been well so I missed last week. I’ve been feeling like the wrap up is a chore for a little while now and not as many people as I thought click on the links. Perhaps I need to change it up a bit, write better descriptions or things to interest people in the links. I’m trying a new, potentially easier way of keeping links which I’ll let everyone know about, if it works out.

Now What?

I’ll be back later today with something potentially interesting, so drop back then. :) In the meantime if you’re Australian and you have not seen LOLPOLs yet, you may want to check it out. Just be warned, don’t put the pics on slideshow and eat or drink anything during it. I almost covered my screen in water when I saw this one. My absolute favourite? This one. The look in that baby’s eyes!

Weekly Wrap Up 28/10/07 - Snoskred Goes Crazy And Stuff!

Oh my god, I think I truly have lost my mind. Not only did I sign up for NaBloPoMo, but I have just signed up for NaNoWriMo as well.

I’ve had this story floating around in my head for about a month now, partly inspired by Stephen King’s book Insomnia, and partly inspired by a dream I had which contained the odd concept that we all have a set amount of time here on the planet when we arrive - it doesn’t matter what we do, what we eat etc because our time of death is pre-determined. So I’ll give writing the story a go, and see what happens.

Chani is holding Accentuate The Positive on November the 1st, make sure to get involved, I already have mine written. ;)

Also, the NaBloPoMo Randomiser is up and running - get clicking and commenting ya’all!

Funny Search Terms This Week -

does someone want to give me 5 million dollars - I’d say the answer is no.. ;)

school teacherw upslirt - Maybe if you had concentrated better in school instead of trying to look up the teachers skirt, you would have been able to spell this search and find what you were looking for?

get me a site meter - For everyone who is looking for this, keep an eye out for a post from me this week - possibly on Tuesday as we don’t have a topic for the Tech Tuesday yet - about a fantastic new site meter I found that you can get for me, or you!

Now before we get into the links, I still have about 400 unread posts, so forgive me for the lack of linkage and apologies for the short wrap up.

Must Reads -

Post of the week
Strength and gentleness are not opposed. - Absolutely amazing photographs! If you click on no other link make sure to click on this one.

Top 50 Australian Women’s Blogs - And hey, I’m like number 7. I was number 2! Moving down in the world already hehe..

Well, it seemed like this year’s must-have, bad taste Hallowe’en gift for amputees, but sadly it isn’t even that cool. - I agree, it is in extremely poor taste and to add insult to injury it doesn’t do what it says it will do!

Deliverance on Coronation Street - A beautiful dream, Audrey.

To the NaBloPoMo virgins - some words of wisdom from a veteran - Ooh, I am one of the virgins! Yay!

Notes - Yes, come back Invader Zim!

Funnies -

Every week I look at this section and I realise I don’t have a lot of funny blogs - can anyone suggest a few more for me?

Photo Hunters #40: Pink - Wow that is such a pretty wig Daisy!
Fashion Friday: It’s almost Halloween! - practicing ringing the doorbell had me laughing so much the other half came in to see what was the matter with me. I love your blog Daisy!

The One with Naked Lis - Lis completes the Actors Studio meme, and bravely posts a picture of her naked self. ;)

Foodies -

beet bread. - I will be trying this sometime in the next couple of weeks.

Chez Panisse’s Butternut Squash Risotto - Yum!

Blogs To Be Added To The Sidebar -

There’s only one on the list this week but it is an absolute corker - make sure you check it out!

  • Diary Of A Koalawrangler
  • Coming Up -

Julie has announced the Hump Day Hmmm topics for the next 3 weeks - Next Hump Day Hmm topics for 10-31, 11-7, and 11-14 - also don’t forget about Accentuate The Positive.

NaBloPoMo and NaNoWriMo begin Thursday. Have you signed up? If not, may I suggest doing so now, before the last minute rush? :)

Hopefully tomorrow we will be launching the new scam emails blog, fingers crossed. ;) Now I to take a break and have some Lindt chocolate or this wicked new icecream I found. Aussies, keep an eye out for Gelativo Vanilla Bean, it rocks!

    Weekly Wrap Up 21/10/07

Tomorrow I am going to post what might be the most important blog post I ever write here on the blog. Some people may be insulted by it. Some people may feel guilty. Some people may shoot the messenger. The message is important and I am going to ask all of you to help me in getting the message out there by stumbling the post, digging it, posting about it on your blogs and anything else you can do to get the word out. Please don’t blame me for being the messenger or making you feel insulted or guilty. We all have a responsibility to our fellow humans to try and do the right thing but sometimes convenience and “what we’re used to” and “what seems easy” is what we do, instead of what is *right*.

I’m struggling with the wording of it right now because it is something I feel very strongly about and as it reads right now, it could be seen as.. well.. venomous. I’ll try to take the venom out, if ya’all promise you’ll read it with an open mind.

On Friday I posted about blog spam - when I posted there had been 91 spam comments in the Tan Tan Noodles spam filter. Would anyone like to take a guess at how many there are now, Sunday evening, just 2 days later? Not you Sephy, you have admin access and that would be cheating.. :)

And now onto the wrap up!

Funny Search Terms This Week -

Britney Naked - Oh come on, we’ve all seen her meat purse already! Why are you still looking for this? Seriously!

western uniuon - Looks like I’ll be getting all the mis-spelt searches for this - and it might be a great idea to create a page for the search engines..

girl who made a million dollars with adsense - I don’t believe anyone did. I’m firmly anti-adsense. Bloggers and webmasters deserve to get paid more than adsense pays. It really is that simple. Google are making a shedload out of it, I’m sure - and they need to give more back to the people supporting it.

    Must Reads -

    Post of the week
You Own Your Thoughts, Now Control Them - I believe in what this post is talking about. I do what this post is talking about, daily. I believe it so much I sent this to my other half who is going through a negative patch right now - and I think if he reads it and embraces it things will improve.

BIG List of Disposable (Temporary) email services - This is really useful if you want to not get spam. ;)

Seven Questions That Will Change Your Life - I’m adding this to my to do list! ;)

    Blog Stuff -

Zen and the Art of Blogging - This post is wonderful. Great work Patrick!

Seven Reasons Why Your Blog is Scary - Absolutely, I have gone to blogs and shut down the window within seconds.

69 Tools to Monitor, Measure, and Track Your Website - Handy!

Does Google have anything to fear from the blogosphere? - I think another question to ask is, does Google have anything to fear from the ACCC - if they go around penalising Aussie bloggers they might find out that they do, because something like that would be against the trade practices act. Plus, they’re already in trouble with the ACCC - ACCC Alleges misleading and deceptive conduct by Trading Post and Google - It will be interesting to see how that turns out.

Comments: How to Get and How to Give - Heather mentioned my guest post at One Man’s Goal and there are other great links here.

Move Your Blogspot Blog To Your Own Domain With Ease - Those of you on Blogger will want to read this.

Tiffany Guest Posted and it was a moving read, so if you missed it check it out now.

    Weekly Wrap Up 14/10/07

It has been a HUGE week with a new redesign and moving to wordpress. This week’s wrap up is a little shorter than usual because I have been too busy to keep up with my reader. Sorry about that everyone! ;)

I got the $100 voucher I mentioned in last week’s wrap up, and bought a few sponsored reviews. I asked the bloggers to make any links to the blog no follow - I did not want to pay for links, I was paying for the opinions of people who are not biased. Two reviews have been completed and I link to them below.

The process of paying bloggers was very eye opening, I will talk about it later in the week but if you are someone who does sponsored reviews I highly recommend you get your own voucher - you have till the end of October - and try it for yourself. Trust me on that one, ok? You can find out more about the voucher here - $100 SponsoredReviews.com Coupon : Exclusive for Search Engine Journal Readers.

Just before we get into the wrap up, I got an email from Neerav about the election being announced. If you’re in Australia you will want to read this post - Enrol and Register To Vote: You Can Make A Difference

I’m so exhausted after a long day of chores so I’m off to bed, be good ya’all!

    Weekly Wrap Up 07/10/07

This week has been huge for me in terms of learning about Wordpress. This time last week I was quite frankly terrified about switching to WP. Now, I am thrilled and excited about it. I can’t wait to switch over and show you guys what I have created. ;) Hopefully that will be early this week - I’m just trying to break it now, making sure everything works.. :) I will let you know when it is happening. And now, on to the wrap up.

Funny Search Terms This Week -

is there a picture of alf with an oxygen mask on - Do you mean Alf the tv alien? I don’t know.. ;)

pregnant woman driven crazy by barking dog - I don’t think pregnancy increases your chances of being driven crazy by a barking dog. I think a barking dog is annoying to all - other than the owners of said dog - regardless of their gender or whether or not they are pregnant. ;)

aussie pie shop wont go halal - And nor should they have to, if they don’t want to. This is Australia in the year 2007, not Australia back in the days when it wasn’t safe to eat Pork. We have refrigeration here. We have a thriving pork industry. Halal is a hangover from about 2,000 years ago. Just because it says something in a book, and that applied back in those days, does not mean we all have to obey it now in a different age entirely. It’s your choice to eat Halal, and it is a shops choice to go Halal. That’s up to them. Customers can choose to go there - and if they wont because it is not Halal, the shop loses out. Pies include meat, and often bacon. Build a bridge. Eat somewhere else.

neil diamond wig - There’s no doubt, the man has some great hair.. ;)

sexist designer advertisements - Allrighty then..

spoiled country bitches - Yeah, that’s me. You’ve come to the right place! ;) hehe

belly dancer confessions sex owner tips - I am thinking of taking up belly dancing actually. ;) They have lessons here where I live.

where sequins come from - Is it the same place babies come from? ;)

    Must Reads -

    Bloggers Note! Free Stuff!
$100 SponsoredReviews.com Coupon : Exclusive for Search Engine Journal Readers - This is a fantastic opportunity for bloggers to sign up as an advertiser and purchase a few reviews of their blog. I read about it on Sphinn and now have added the Search Engine Journal to my reader - not only did I get a $100 credit but I found a great new blog to read as well. A good deal all round!

    Post of the week
A Long Answer to a Short Question - Gwen, if you happen to read this, I respect your decision but I strongly disagree with it. Perhaps it is the best thing for you but it means I’ll have to remove your blog from my feed reader. I can’t read a blog where I feel like I can’t be there for the blogger in comments. It makes me feel like my thoughts and opinions aren’t wanted or cared about. However I can see how people get caught up in the amount of comments on my post = my self worth. I have seen other bloggers do it. Me personally I don’t let it bother me. If a post gets comments, yay. If not, also yay. I said what I wanted to say, and I gave other people the chance to say what they wanted to say. I hope you change your mind, let me know if you do.

Ten Signs That You are WAY Outside of Your Comfort Zone - I agree, stepping outside of your comfort zone can feel like $hit. I needed this post right now, with the whole switching to Wordpress thing. I was starting to doubt, to second guess.. in fact most of the things on the list of 10.

Caring for the Dead - A thought provoking post.

Beach Etiquette - Some Classic Andrew G Writing. Love your work!

Don’t Forget to Get Back Up - Amen.

How much control does Google have over us? - Far too much, I’m afraid. ;(

Dancing With The Gevil - Defamed By Google? - This post makes me extremely angry. I can’t believe Google feel they have the right to treat people like this. It’s yet another in a line of blows to bloggers which Google are inflicting. Someone needs to take a stand - and I’m hoping it will be Andy. ;) I have a huge amount of respect for you Andy, I’m so glad I somehow found your blog, and I completely agree with everything you wrote in this post. Just so you know.

Comma Chameleon - I enjoyed this. I am also an offender.

The Fear Is Back - Vera has upgraded to Wordpress and the blog looks fantastic but the content has always been spectacular and this is yet another example of it.

Being a Good Blogosphere Citizen - I think it is important for all of us to be excellent to other bloggers. As it said in Bill And Ted - Be Excellent To Each Other - And Party On Dudes!

11 Pointless Blog Posts that Waste my Time - I disagree with one of the points in the comments, but most of these are valid. :) Bloggers, do you commit these sins?

Six Ways Blogging Differs From Other Types of Writing - I am a particular fan of point number 4.

Blog Rush or just Blog Mush? -There’s been a lot of talk about blog rush. I won’t be signing up for it at this stage. I’ll wait to hear what other bloggers have to say after a month or so of using it.

I’m the kind of person who refuses to go to see a movie if they hype it too much, even if I want to see it. So the hype over blogrush has made me back right away from it. Note to start ups - a lot of hype in one week or less is not always the best for you and your product.

Why I Will Not Make Money With DealDotCom - Well done, Bloggrrl. An excellent article which says a lot of the stuff I thought when I heard about this too. This one was also talked about a lot last week.

    Weekly Wrap Up 16/09/07

It’s just a quick wrap up this week due to my internet connection playing up, my apologies all. I’m only going to post the funnies and my favourite articles from the last week. I’m not really in the mood to struggle with this wireless constantly dropping out in order to finish the other sections.

The actual internet connection is fine, it is the wireless between here and The Other Half’s room which is the issue. Concrete walls and steel reinforcements don’t seem to help! I may complete the wrap up in a separate post tomorrow, if we can get this sorted.
