baytrees

We’ve been spending a lot of time walking around the bay, just lately.

baynotwindy

Sometimes, the bay is so calm, it looks like you could just about walk out on it. I’ve seen it like complete glass.

baywindy

Other times, there is a big wind, so noisy it covers the noise of the waves.

baynowind4

No wind.

baywind4

Big wind. Back again next Sunday!

The Oracle Knows All.. At Least Some.. Well Really Just One Thing.

So, you’ve moved to the beach? You’re going to need an Oracle. What is an Oracle, I hear you ask? It is the God of the Ocean. It is the one thing you must consult before heading off to the beach. It is vital and important, not just for beach walkers but for boaters and for fishermen..

beach1209

I do not believe in any One God, but I do believe in the Oracle. And now I am going to show you the Oracle. Are you sitting down? Paying full attention? ;) This is *important*!!!

oracle1

My Oracle is a simple piece of paper with important things printed on it. Some people have an Oracle that comes in book form. Some people who are highly advanced creatures consult the Online Oracle.

oracle

As always, I hear your thoughts. Why is an Oracle necessary? Why is this important to someone who wants to walk on the beach? You see the above photo. That is a local creek. There is no bridge over this creek, and at certain times of the day where I am standing to take this photo I would be about neck deep in water. So the Oracle can help me work out when is the best time to take my beach walk and be able to cross this creek.

dolphins

What the Oracle cannot tell me is what I will see when I get to the beach, if there will be any dolphins there, if the weather will be ok, and a multitude of other things. It simply tells me when the tides will be high or low. Someone tells me this has something to do with the Moon, but I am not sure about this.

creeks

As you see there are a couple of creeks on my beach walk paths. If the Oracle has not lied to me, I am able to walk a very long way on the beach. If I go when the Oracle has said “Don’t Go” I cannot walk very far at all.

redrock

All beach photos in this post were taken by me earlier today – I saw two different pods of Dolphins today. I walked a long way but managed to lose my pedometer sometime after 4,256 steps. :( and I still had a long way to walk when I last checked the meter! I walked for over an hour and a half on top of my 20 minute short walk this morning when I foolishly did not listen to The Oracle and could not cross either of the creeks.

tides

This post has been a Hump Day Hmmm. Feel free to write your own Hump Day Hmmm, it is simple and easy to join in! The topic this week was –

Take a topic, any topic, something that is weighing on you, bothering you, troubling you…and find the humor in it. Write about it from a humorous angle. It can be general or personal, just take a troubling topic and bring out the humor. FWIW, sarcasm counts. Letter style, onion style, Shakespeare style, prose, any style you want.

I suppose The Oracle is not a troubling topic for everyone, but it has become a new troubling topic for me this week. I am now joined at the hip to a piece of paper because someone could not simply say – High tide is at midday and midnight, and low tide is at 6am and 6pm! No, they have to make it *complicated* and *ever changing* just to confuse poor little me. :( As much as I love the moon, I believe Juliet was right when she said –

O, swear not by the moon, the inconstant moon, that monthly changes in her circled orb, lest that thy love prove likewise variable.

Blogger Non-Beta

dolphin, originally uploaded by sn0skred.

I liked the beta better, I’ve been trying to upload pics for a few days and it’s not working. Check this pic The Other Half took while fishing recently. We have a lot of dolphin pods around here and while they were out on the local river they saw about 40 of them. It was a really sunny, glary day and if you look closely at this shot you can see that star effect – he must have had the aperture set really low on this shot in order to get that. It looks stunning.

You can see the big version of the photo here.

Today we go out..

For a little drive. We went to some beaches! YAY!

drive0

First we went to Murray’s Beach, where you may hike, sightsee, bicycle and fall off cliffs. You may not light fires, camp, or stick spear things with ropes attached into fish, as you can see in this picture.

drive01 We walked through a little forest (300 metres, according to the sign) and the forest was quite pretty and possibly a little scary.

drive

Then we ended up here.

drive1

We started walking down the beach this way

drive3

but soon after the other half was surprised by a naked man venturing out of the bushes and into the ocean. He promptly suggested we go the other way. I did not even notice they were naked, I was too busy taking photos of shells.

aadrive

He was most disturbed as there were children on the beach and felt it was very inappropriate. I disagreed, hey, if they want to let it all hang out, and nobody’s arresting them, and it doesn’t say on the sign you can’t take off your clothes, I don’t mind them wandering around in their birthday suits. I would be much more offended by a dog on a beach than a naked person. Then he said he was worried they might think we were trying to take photos of them, as we have such a huge lens and all. I said, well as long as I am pointing it at the sand and shells, I don’t think they’ll be worried about that, but hey, there’s rock pools over there, lets go that way.

aadrive1

It’s lucky we did go that way, because we made a new friend.

drive2

After a nice long beach walk, we decide to leave.

aadrive2

Other half was not happy because I had sandy foot (both were sandy but this is a photo of one of them and the only photo of me ever on this blog as yet so enjoy it) and no place to wash off sand. I said not to worry, I will vacuum the car. And I will, one day, probably right before we sell it. ;)

So we get back in the car and venture off to other beaches. We drive to Jervis Bay (the entire bay is named that but there is also a town named that) and I cannot show you a photo of a wallaby standing right beside the road because I apparently do not point very well. I’m yelling “Look over there, look over there!” and pointing wildly at the side of the road at this rather large brown creature, and the other half was unable to see what on earth all the fuss was about. We drove back around the block to see if we could see it again, but it must have crossed the road.

And now here is a photo of the beach that belongs to the Navy. In an interesting change of procedure, they have actually something that resembles a port nearby. *near* WATER! I have always found it hilarious that there is a Navy base in Canberra, with only a manmade lake nearby and nowhere to launch ships within a 100km drive. But they do have all those handy helicopters and jets and stuff.

aanavy1

All the places above are a part of Booderee National Park. All this less than 50kms from my doorstep. Wow, I’s lucky. :)

Tomorrow, I may show you more pics from this lovely drive! Except we loved this place so much today, first thing in the morning we’re going to check out snorkelling gear and wetsuits. Well, a wetsuit for me at least, there’s jellyfish in those waters, and it’s a little cool. :)

beach walk, beaches, New South Wales, photography

I have cookies.. :)

We went for a drive to the big shopping centre about 50kms away. It was a nice day out. I took a few little pictures too.

alien

Some months ago we discovered something new when out driving. I’m not sure what it is supposed to be – the other half says it is a u turn bay, but there’s no signs suggesting that. It’s just in the middle of nowhere, too. I personally suspect it may be an Alien Landing Site and if we go there at – as my nephew used to call it – “Dark Time” we might find bright lights and be beamed up into the night sky.

road

Around here, there seems to be an odd way of going about fixing the roads. When something is wrong, they just seem to lay more asphalt on top of the road in a bizzare hope that this will fix the problem. This means you often find roads that look really nice for a few weeks, then the large trucks driving on them every day, the traffic, and other wear and tear, has an effect which makes it highly dangerous again. I do not think this is what the NRMA has in mind when they say fix our bloody roads.

werri2

This is the other end of Werri Beach which has appeared here before. :) There’s another shot of it on my upload for today of the 365 photo blog, which I am now up to date on ;) yay! And it’s even better because we haven’t officially started yet. I’m just kind of in training, getting the modalities in place. ;)

The beaches around here sure look nice, and if I weren’t so terrified of sharks and various other sea creatures, I might be tempted to go for a swim. But I am terrified of sharks and other sea creatures, so I think not, at the moment. I’d like to go snorkelling when it gets hot this year, maybe, on a netted beach a couple of hours south I have heard of.

Millions of things..

Jihanna has blogged the 10 things today. So has Northern_Girl. All ye Nablopomo people looking for something new to blog, consider yourself tagged. Write 10 things about you on your next blog, and post in the comments here to let me know so I can link back to you. If you don’t comment I won’t know, cos I’m not omnipresent or psychic, though I try to be the first.. hehe ;)

Today I woke up with Midnight Oil’s Short Memory in my head – be warned it gets in there and it won’t get out. I am currently hearing Hotel California – a live version, by the Eagles, which I love.

A strange phenomenon is occuring to us lately. We moved here just over 10 months ago, and lately we’ve been missing stuff we are sure we had packed (my paintbrushes, the sequins) and now we seem to be asking ourselves odd questions about what we did with things we used to own. Yesterday I asked the other half what did we do with the Fridge? He asked me what happened to all our plastic chairs.

I thought my paintbrushes must have got lost, or we left them behind. Yesterday I opened a drawer, and was extremely shocked to see them in there. I cried! Seriously, I was so happy to see them, and now you have confirmation that I am psycho, for who would cry over finding some paintbrushes? But it was just complete happiness at finding something I was sure I had lost. I think maybe U2 wrote a song about that once. After I was done crying, I took a photo of them.. here they are, the once missing paintbrushes..

pbrush

The two white fan brushes are the ones I really wanted back, they were from ceramics and I got so used to using them I was worried I wouldn’t be able to paint without them. And the mug they are in, I made that at ceramics, it was one of my almost disasters. You get this paint with stuff that explodes in the kiln. I put too much of the stuff that explodes on.. :)

Anna Falactic asked me yesterday about my painting – here’s my latest. It’s going to have gold over the top, when I’m done. It’s for my Mum, this is her favourite color. I can’t decide whether I should use stamps to put on the gold, or just paint huge gold stripes on it. I don’t want to mess it up, this is a huge canvas. I really had a ball painting this though. I’m going to do a second coat soon and then get started on a hot pink and a royal purple version, these are for me.. ;) You can see the pink paint there.

newpainting

Beaches! Beaches! Beaches! – Yesterday was pretty bad weather here, extremely windy. When we went for a drive the Ocean seemed to be all riled up, so I got a pic for you.

werri

My sister is driving down for a visit over the weekend, but I will make sure to get online once a day and blog something. Yeah I have a couple of things all written and ready to go.. :) rofl!

And now, to comment on some blogs, then paint, then comment, then paint.. ;) that’s the “agenda” for today. Thanks for all your lovely comments guys!
