Snoskred Says –

If this scam is successful, the scam victim will be out just under $10,000. :( And they may do it more than once before the victim finds out the funds transferred in are stolen or fraudulent.

Banks should hold some responsibility here. They do not make it clear enough to people that these scams can happen, and that fund transfers or cheques can be reversed at a later time if the transaction is found to be fraudulent.

I would advise anyone caught by this scam to make a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman. The scam victim may be able to sort out a deal with the bank where the bank pays some – or all – of the losses.

I would also place a complaint with Seek, and if they had my resume and information, I would remove my details from there if at all possible.

    • To us, this is a large sum of money. To the scammers, just one $10,000 sum is enough to keep them going for a couple of years. These guys are pocketing huge sums of money on a regular basis because the banks make this scam easy for them – and until they are forced to bear the cost of these scams themselves, they will keep on making it easy. :(

  1. The number of personal questions requiring answers etc is enough to put me off anything like that. Asking for a photocopy of your ID??? I’m happy to say I recognise all of these (and others) as the scams they are.

    • There are some legit jobs that ask for all these things, these days. Given the state of unemployment in this country, it is no surprise to me that people fall for this as a “real” job and our government and banks do not do a lot of education efforts to tell people otherwise.

I probably should take my fake cheques on a tour of the country, but that would mean media exposure for me and I’m not down with that.. so I just do everything I can here on the blog to educate people. ;)

  2. Got that exact email job offer today and was immediately sus as they ask for all payments to go through my personal bank account… Will be reporting them to SEEK.
