Welcome to my feedreader, bloggers..

There are 31 of you. In my internet travels I found my way to your blog, often because I read a blogger who linked to you. I liked your blog a lot. While there, I probably read back about 40+ posts or so. Then I added you to my feedreader.

Most of you will know what a feedreader is, but in case you do not, click here for info. The quick run down – it is an awesome program which collects new articles that bloggers post. So when you post something new, I get a copy, and if I have the time and something to say, I will click through and comment. If you want to get a feed reader, I highly recommend Inoreader, which I have been using a lot lately.

At the end of 6 months or so, if I am still loving your blog as much as I did when I added you to my feed reader, I will add you to my permanent blogroll. YAY!

August New Feed Review –

It has now been six months since August, so this month I have gone through that process and the blogs which I am keeping are these – in August I divided the blogs into an International and Australian list so I’m keeping that division with the feed review.

International Unsubscribe

Why did I unsubscribe from 50 of the 60 international blogs?

I wrote a pretty decent post a long while ago with 14 reasons readers unsubscribe from your blog – and for this group, the reasons were as follows listed in no particular order –

Where Are You? You Went Quiet. You’re A Wanna-be. I’m not feeling it. Plus two new ones – Too Many Photos All The Time – You Only Provide A Partial Feed

Australian Unsubscribe

Why did I unsubscribe from 39 of the 59 Aussie blogs? As above – the reasons were as follows listed in no particular order –

Where Are You? You Went Quiet. You’re A Wanna-be. I’m not feeling it. Plus four new ones –

You wrote a post I strongly disagreed with – You spelled my name incorrectly, more than once! – I left you a comment but you did not publish it – You only provide a partial feed.

Is your blog not listed here but you would like it to be? Email Snoskred via the contact page and Snoskred will add your blog to her feed reader. :)

  1. Interesting. Some people seem to try to gather readers by making one or two comments but then don’t show an ongoing commitment. Once I add someone to my blog list, there is no going back. I read everything they write, in detail. As for my blog reader, I have a list of around two hundred. There are many dead links and some that never require a reply or interaction.

    • I use the 6 months between adding a blog to my feed reader to decide if a blog is a long term keeper. :) Not all blogs are for me. And we all do things our own way.

Once they are a long term keeper, I do the same as you do – those blogs are still in my feed reader (in a special folder called rarelyupdates) but I don’t keep non active blogs on my blogroll.

I want to keep my blogroll fresh, so that if someone arrives here and wants to check out the blogs I read, there is a decent chance they’ll get an active blog. :)

Bear in mind, at any given time, I have between 500-700 blogs in my feed reader. Even with all those blogs, most days there are less than 200 posts to read, and I am a fast reader.

I do have a section for blogs that have gone dark, but those are blogs I have been reading for many years, most since 2007 or so..

When I go back through the 6 month decision process of keeper or not keeper, I always click through to the blog itself and read back there. Sometimes I’ll find a blog I have added has not posted anything at all since I added it! If a blog goes dark like that in the 6 month trying on time, then it probably isn’t going to be a long term read for me, unless I really love the blogger.

  2. It is partly that I am a fast reader, but the feed reader helps a megaton as well. :) It makes keeping up with blogs super quick and easy for me..

I’ll do a post on feed reading for those who don’t use them. :)
