We want to keep one of the calves off of a cow.The problem is the cow is due again in a couple of months and the calf is still sucking? How long do we have to keep the calf off the cow till it dries up or the cow won't let the calf suck anymore? We don't want last years calf still sucking and taking all of this years calf's milk away. The calf was born in February of this year.We would have sold her with the rest this month but would like to keep her as she looks like a nice replacement cow.

I love cows too, in a very ignorant kind of way. I know much more now - thanks to your post. I rented a cottage on a beef farm once and I was very distressed when they separated the cows and the calves because they mooed all night long, I felt in despair and loss of one another. My pa tells me they can find each other after long separations also. I love them because they look beautiful and innocent.

My father-in-law is a cow fanatic and as a result so is my daughter. I think she's mostly into stuffed animal cows, though! ;)

I learned a lot about cows, very interesting! My Mommie is a vegeterian and does not eat any meat of any kind. I do not understand this at all. My Stinky Goodness is filled with delicious meats.

That was informative! More than I ever thought to ask. Speaking of AI, I have a friend who used to be in charge of getting the bull semen. And she's hot, so presumably it was easier for the bull to give it up. They had a fake cow for the bull to get busy with, and then she had a long rubber glove, then things happened, and presumably soon enough they both smoked a cigarette and went back to their lives where they passed each other in the hallway awkwardly and she never called again and the bull probably felt used but still glad deep down that he met her and the other bulls would look at her and look at him and say "Her? No way!" Yeah, go bovines.

Cugat
http://vegetative.net/
