Not a complete disaster..

I think the new blog template looks ok. What do you think? Drop by and have a look, and let me know. The three column layout is something new to me and it did take a bit of getting used to but the advantage is..

<---- everything over there is about Snoskred
The other stuff is over there —–>

Thanks to The Blogger Workshop where I found the theme. I have to say it was really easy to install and then customize. The entire process took about two hours but that is because I went through all of my sidebar stuff bit by bit and decided what I wanted to keep and what to get rid of, I went and got a few new things and then I went off to have lunch and watch TV in the middle of it.

Major lesson learned though – anyone on blogger reading this, I recommend you don’t use the links list blogger has. Always do your links in proper HTML (which looks like this). It will save you a nightmare. At least, it would if you don’t have a Sephy to give you a little secret tip. If you’re using Mozilla Firefox, highlight your list of links, right click, choose view selection source, and you’ll get the HTML. Thanks Sephy, that saved me a ton of time.

The more I look at it the more crazy about it I get. I really love it. The one downside is the sidebars load before the main window and that slows things down a little.

  1. I love the three column template – it’s the first one I ever went with when I set up my blog the first time. Makes everything so much easier to read and less cluttered :)

  2. It’s great! good for you.

I have wanted a three column template, and also want to learn how to change the masthead, but I have very limited time. I’m glad the experience wasn’t harrowing, and at some point, perhaps I’ll move forward with a template change, too.

  3. I really like it. Right now i am just trying to figure out the bare bones basics of blogging. Someday I’ll try and figure out some cool stuff for my blog.

  4. you did change your template! (I’m finally responding back to your comment and compliment about my blog!) I like it, especially the purple font and the way the two sidebars work out. Oh but I feel your pain- I got lucky to have a blog friend who made my template for me because blogger is a pain to decorate!

  5. Thanks for all the positive comments :) I’m in love with it right now but that can change, so we’ll see how it goes.

Alyndabear, it takes a bit of getting used to, I think. I wasn’t sure at first, but now I love it, and blogger makes it so easy to edit.

Meg – I tend to sleep during the daytime here. I struggle against being a night person like a rat in a trap but one day I will just accept that I like to be awake at night, like vampires. ;)

Sober Briquette – it was so utterly simple and it would have been even more simple if I’d read all the instructions first, most importantly about widgets. When I went in to upload the new template, blogger told me I was going to delete a lot of widgets, and I did have a moment of panic. So I went through and copied and pasted all the code out of the widgets, getting rid of some stuff as I went.

It turns out, on the blogger template site, there was a post on how to get around the widget deletion thing. :) I never have been too good at reading instructions. ;)

Christine, the bare bones are the difficult part, it took a while for me to grasp them. However there comes a point at which you just *get* things. Last night doing this template change, I felt like I’d had a brain transplant or something. There I was doing all technical stuff on my *own* and it was great. Normally I get Sephy to help me, but he’d gone shopping. Of all things! ;)

Erin – I thought about having a background other than white, but I was too chicken. :) Yours is brave, I think. :) One day, I will get there..
